There are very few Japanese used cars that are better than a Subaru. According to some car trivia experts, Subaru, owned by Fuji Heavy Industries and Toyota Motors Corporation (16.5%) was named after the Taurus’ constellation of star clusters called Pleiades. If you look at the logo of the Subaru, you will notice the presence of 6 stars. Others believe that the 6 stars represent the people behind the company who helped build Subaru. Another set of people have confused Pleiades with the Seven Sisters which they say is another cluster of stars.

To explain further, Seven Sisters when translated is “Subaru.” It consists of over 500 stars but only 6 of these 500 stars are visible. On occasions when the sky is clear and the weather is excellent, one can see 9 to 12 stars from this cluster using the right equipment. Seven Sisters is a common name used to describe the brightest stars on Pleiades. Thus, it isn’t a different cluster. The reason for the name Seven Sisters being named as the cluster and why the company only puts 6 stars is because Pleione who is the mythological mother had 7 daughters with Atlas and one of the daughters or stars is a double star.
From the Japanese perspective, SUBARU refers to “6 gathered stars” or “Mitsuro-Bashi,” and this is in reference to the Pleiades stars. In Japan, there is a very old romantic song that was composed over 1,000 years ago that has the word Subaru in it.
According to Fuji Heavy Industries, the mother company of Subaru, the story of the logo is simple. After the war, Fuji was forced by the government to break down into smaller companies to reduce it monopoly on the weapons industry. It did this and originally had 15 companies but by the 1950s, all that remained were 5 companies and Fuji. This is why there are 5 small stars and one larger star.
