In 2000, Universal Scoring Products, Inc. started business with the creation of the patented U SCORE'M family of scoring kits. U SCOREM originated in the mountains of New Mexico while on an elk hunt at the Bataan Lodge. The lodge was built and named by the ranch owner for all the men, including his son, who suffered so terribly during the Bataan Death March and the years that followed. The lodge is always open to any veteran of Bataan to enjoy the beauty and freedom of America.
In the spirit of American freedom, six strangers came together to hunt elk that October. None of us were trophy hunters but we all wanted to be good ethical hunters by harvesting mature representative elk. The problem was that none of us, including our guides, really understood what is a mature elk? Sure, we knew about 5x5's and 6x6's but that was about it. Then after returning to Texas we started the annual pursuit of our state passion, whitetail deer. Again the same problem, we all knew about 8 points, and 10 or 12 points but we really didn't understand what it takes for an animal to reach its full maturity through age, nutrition, and genetics. So we learned to age, manage, and field judge whitetail deer and from this knowledge we created U SCORE'M to help everyone learn more about harvesting mature representative animals.
The U SCORE'M kits are designed to help any hunter, regardless of their experience, manage our wildlife through judging and harvesting mature animals. The truth is that to a whitetail hunter all elk look huge, to a mule deer hunter whitetail look small, and who in the world can tell a 14" antelope from a 16" 'lope or a 8" turkey beard from a 10"? To help you judge your animals we found that scoring racks and careful field observation is the best way to learn. We created U SCORE'M so any ethical hunter can score their own animal and learn about tine lengths, main beams, mass, spread, prongs, beards, and spurs to better manage our wildlife.
Universal Scoring Products now manufactures over 30 unique products that help ethical hunters. Please join us in the spirit of the Bataan Lodge as we promote and protect our hunting freedom for the present and future generations.
